What is the Community Toilets scheme?
Lewisham, like most of London, has closed most of its public toilets. The Community Toilets scheme fills that gap by paying local businesses a small annual amount to open their toilets to the public for free, without requiring a purchase.
If you see a Community Toilet sticker in a business window, you can walk in, use the toilet, and walk out. Nobody will ask why you are there. Nobody will ask you to buy something. The toilet is genuinely free to use.

Community Toilets are open across the borough, in cafés, shops, restaurants, community centres, and other businesses. Have a look at the map to find one near you.
Who this is for
Everyone. But the scheme matters most for the people who are worst affected by the lack of public toilets: older residents, people with medical conditions like Crohn’s disease or IBS, parents with young children, pregnant women, people who work outdoors, and people who spend a lot of time out and about across the borough.
Nobody needs to justify why they are using a Community Toilet. That is the point.

Join the Community Toilet scheme
If you run a business in Lewisham with a toilet the public could use, you can join the Community Toilets scheme. You get an annual payment from the Council to compensate for the extra use, a window sticker, and a listing on the map. In return, you agree to let members of the public use your toilet for free.
